Shippit's Scan to Search & Print Labels feature helps streamline your workflow by enabling you to search for orders and print shipping labels directly from Shippit just by scanning a barcode representing the order number.

  • Scan to Search - Instead of using a keyboard to manually type in the order number to find an order, Shippit users can now scan the barcode on their packslip to find the order in Shippit New Orders, Ready to Ship and Track tabs.
  • Scan to Print - Rather than confirming the quote and printing the label in two separate steps, Shippit users can now scan the barcode on their packslip to confirm and print the label in a single action. This action moves the order from the Shippit New Orders tab to the Ready to Ship tab.

How to Setup

For Scan to Search, you’ll need to:

  1. Verify the barcode to be scanned
  2. Get a barcode scanner

For Scan to Print, you’ll need to:

  1. Verify the barcode to be scanned

Verify the barcode to be scanned

The barcode to be scanned needs to represent the retailer invoice/order number of the order.

Using Shippit Packslip

This barcode is displayed on the Shippit packslip, which can be found by selecting ‘Packslip’ on the New orders page. You can generate a packslip by selecting the orders you need a packslip for and selecting the blue ‘Packslip’ button above the table.

Not using the Shippit Packslip?

Scan to Search & Print will still work even if you scan the barcode on the packslip or customer invoice generated in your e-commerce platform, OMS, WMS, etc.

Get a barcode scanner

To take advantage of the Scan to Print feature, you’ll need a barcode scanner that supports scanning 1D barcodes. Think of these scanners like a keyboard – instead of you manually typing in the order number, the scanner enters the number in the search field for you.

Need to purchase a scanner?

The Zebra LS2208 is a popular corded model. Alternatively, you might be interested in the cordless (Zebra LI4278) or rugged model (Zebra LI3608).

Shippit’s recommended supplier is The Barcode Store. Their scanners come standard with 5 year warranties for corded scanners or 3 years warranties for cordless scanners.

 

Setting up a Zebra LS2208 barcode scanner

If you don’t want to press enter on your keyboard after scanning a barcode to search, you can easily change the setting on your Zebra LS2208 to automatically press enter for you after scanning a barcode.

  1. To do this you will first need to have your scanner plugged into your computer and working correctly. You can test it is working by opening up any text editor and scanning a barcode.
  2. Next locate the quickstart guide found in the box with your scanner and find the page that contains the barcode labeled ‘‘Add an enter key - Carriage return/line feed’.
  3. Now scan that barcode with your Zebra LS2208 scanner, it should make a different sound to the normal scanning sound signifying the setting change. You can now try a scan test again, if the setting has correctly changed your cursor should move to a new line once you scan.

How Scan to Search works

  1. Connect barcode scanner
  2. Log into Shippit
  3. View the New Orders page
  4. Select search mode from the dropdown to the left of the search field
  5. Place your cursor in the search field
  6. Scan your packslip
  7. The Standard orders table should filter on the results of your search

 

How Scan to Print works

  1. Connect barcode scanner
  2. Log into Shippit
  3. View the New Orders page
  4. Select print mode from the dropdown to the left of the search field
  5. Place your cursor in the search field.
  6. Scan your packslip.
      • Important: Only scan the packslip if there are no further changes to be made to the order and you accept the courier quote.
      • If you accidentally scan an order that needs change, you can cancel the label - see more here.
      • If you scan an order with an error, it will not be confirmed/printed - see more here.
  7. A successful scan means the quote for the order should be confirmed, the label should print and the order should move to the Ready to Ship screen. On Ready to Ship, the order will be marked as ‘labelled’ (i.e. the buttons will be greyed out).

      • If you scan the barcode for an order, but your printer is not connected, the quote for the order should be confirmed and the order will move to the Ready to Ship screen, but the label will not be printed. The order will not be marked as labelled. Check out the Troubleshooting steps for print here.

  8. To return to searching only, place your cursor in the Print field. A dropdown will appear on the right hand side. Select ‘Search’ from the dropdown to switch back to searching mode.

 

Important notes

  • Scan to print does not work for priority orders
  • If you scan the barcode for an order with an error message, it will not be confirmed/printed.
      • The order will stay on the New Orders page.
      • Instead, you will see a message “Order XXXX wasn't printed as it couldn't be confirmed. Review the order's details and try again."
      • Please update the order or product details to resolve the error and then try to scan to print again.
  • After scanning, you may receive an error message: 
      • This can occur when the scanned/entered order number is not a unique match or cannot be found in the New orders page.
  • If there’s nothing entered in the field, the following message will appear. If you are scanning a barcode and there is nothing entered in the field, it could be a problem with the scanner.
  • If you select ‘Print’ mode and you get the following message, it means that there’s a problem with your printer connection or you haven’t set up before. Follow the troubleshooting link to resolve this.

Need to cancel a label?

If an order was scanned/printed in error, simply cancel the label on the Ready to Ship page to send it back to New orders, where you can make any necessary changes.

 

Confirm and Print (with no scanner)

  1. Log into Shippit
  2. View the New Orders page
  3. Hover to the right of the Search field and select ‘Print’ from the dropdown
  4. Type your order number in the search field and hit ‘enter’
  5. The quote for the order should be confirmed, the label should print and the order should move to the Ready to Ship screen
